BX on the move, and on foot!

Why you should choose for walking

Gone are the days when walking in Brussels was just about getting from A to B. Over the last ten years, walking has become the most popular way to get around Brussels… and chances are, you’re already on board with the vibe! This trend has been boosted by the transformation of busy roads into pedestrian zones, such as Boulevard Anspach/Anspachlaan. The result? More greenery that invites you to wander and wonder. Good news, when you consider that walking is the least stressful mode of transport. What’s more, it’s free and it soothes the mind.

Paris, Melbourne, Barcelona… Do you know what all these cities have in common?  They’re all “15-minute cities”. Well, Brussels is on a quest to outshine them, by becoming a “10-minute city”.

So what’s a 10-minute city? To put it simply, it’s a city where everything you need is within a 10-minute radius on foot! It means that everything is just a quick walk away in your neighbourhood. And it goes even further: this project is about shaping BX into a city that’s both sustainable and welcoming to all.

Truth be told, there isn’t a day that goes by that you don’t walk: to get to your metro station, to go on a shopping spree on Rue Neuve/ Nieuwstraat, to grab a coffee or simply run a last-minute errand. So why not take those extra steps to see where they lead?

Still not ready to take the step? Let’s change that:

  1. Health is wealth: Walking promotes an active lifestyle and contributes to good physical and mental health! Feeling stressed out? There’s nothing better than a stroll to clear your mind.
  2. Creativity booster: Walking boosts your creativity and problem-solving skills. Dickens, Beethoven, Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg… they all swear (or sworn) by it!
  3. Eco-friendly and quiet: More pedestrians mean less traffic, paving the way for a cleaner, greener and more serene environment.
  4. Community spirit: Walking is a way to discover local gems and fully experience the vibe of your neighbourhood.
  5. Social butterfly effect: In BX, we often live in parallel lanes. What better way to connect with people than to bump into each other on the street?
